Google Reader has added a Send To feature today. There are several built-in options to choose from in Settings.

  • Blogger
  • Delicious
  • Digg
  • Facebook
  • MySpace
  • Reddit
  • StumbleUpon
  • Twitter

They have also provided the ability to add your own custom site to the Send To list. Here is how to add DZone to your own custom list.

From the Send To tab in Google Reader Settings, click Create Custom Link and insert these values:

  • Name: DZone
  • URL: http://www.dzone.com/links/add.html?description=${source}&url=${url}&title=${title}
  • Icon URL: http://www.dzone.com/misc/favicon.ico

That's it! The one limitation of the Send To feature is that no substitutions are provided to grab any text from the body of the article. In my URL above, you will see that I used Google's ${source} for the description. This inserts the name of the blog. You will want to select and copy your description before performing the Send To action and paste it into Description box on DZone.

Happy sharing!
