Oracle's Eclipse Package Gets an Upgrade  
Oracles's set of free Eclipse plugins for Java EE development on Oracle Fusion Middleware just got a new version upgrade.  Oracle Enterprise Pack for Eclipse 11g includes a new AppXRay feature that helps visualize complex dependencies in an application.  The release also includes WYSIWIG Web page editing, Service Component Architecture support, JAX-WS Web service validation, an integrated tag and data palette, and smart editors.

Amazon eBook Price Battle

Recently Amazon has been entangled in an ebook pricing war with Macmillan publishers.  Amazon quickly gave in to Macmillan's demands and reinstated their books after the Science Fiction & Fantasy Writers of America cut their links to Amazon.  This was after Amazon pulled the plug on Macmillan for refusing to let its ebooks be sold at prices lower than $15.

Facebook Wants to Tangle with Gmail
According to a TechCrunch report, Facebook is working on another secret project - a full-fledged web email offering.  Internally, the report says, Facebook is calling it Project Titan, but unofficially it's being called the Gmail killer.  It will have full POP/IMAP support and addresses will include a vanity url then "@facebook.com".  This means no more pesky leftover email notifications or facebook messages because they'll be part of the same program.

W3C Proposes Hardware-Accessing API
The W3C recently released a draft of the System Information API, which specifies JavaScript functions for accessing the hardware characteristics of a device such as battery, CPU, sensors, RAM, and others.  Applications using the API would have to request permission for retrieving this data, which could be used to alert a user when the battery is below a certain charge for example.  The window.navigator object's SystemInfo interface implements the get, set, and watch methods to access hardware.
