Video: The Windows Phone 7 Philosophy
Windows Mobile first came out in the 90's when there was a focus on business utility for smartphones. Now, with Windows Phone 7, Microsoft is taking a different approach by making a phone that has a great user experience for a number of activities, with business capability as one option. WP7 uses the concept of "hubs", which help organize applications into categories. Developers will get to use modern technologies like Silverlight and XBox's XNA framework to develop applications.
Glen Gordon is a developer evangelist for Microsoft. Recently he's been going to various conferences and roadshows to talk about Windows Phone 7. The WP7 SDK recently got its beta label and will probably require only a few minor tweaks before it goes GA. That could happen as early as October, with the rumored release of the first Windows Phone.
